How to promote orchid root growth

Q: I mounted my cattleya on a piece of cork. It took six month to root and I almost lost it. All the bulbs are shriveled since they lack roots. What should I do with this plant?

A: Generally, to promote roots, keep in moderate shade and mist often. Roots usually grow faster under warmer temperatures. Also keep it away from strong air movement until rooted. We sometimes put a very small amount of New Zealand sphagnum moss under the plant to create extra humidity and prevent desiccation.
